The Problem
Small business owners found the existing dashboard overwhelming. Key metrics were buried, and common actions required too many steps.
Goals
Reduce cognitive load, surface the most important metrics first, and enable key actions within two clicks.
Role & Responsibilities
Owned the full redesign process including stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, information architecture, wireframing, and visual design.
Process
Analyzed usage data to identify the most-used features. Conducted card sorting with 15 users to restructure the information architecture. Created low-fidelity wireframes and validated with 6 usability tests.
Solution
A role-based dashboard with customizable widgets, progressive disclosure of detailed data, and quick-action shortcuts for frequent tasks.
Outcomes
User satisfaction scores improved by 40%. Support tickets related to navigation dropped by 55%. Average session time decreased by 20% while task completion increased.
Reflections & Learnings
Data visualization is only useful when it tells a story. The most successful dashboard widgets were the ones that answered a question rather than just displaying numbers.
